Stuttering, a speech disorder, is an interruption in the flow of speaking. It is characterized by behaviors known as disfluencies.

Becoming
Becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist
In addition to their more common roles as clinicians or counsellors for children, speech-language pathologists work with people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. They may be involved in promotion as well as prevention, assessment, or rehabilitation of speech, language, communication, learning or swallowing.
Becoming an audiologist
Audiologists can work with people of all ages, from newborns to seniors. They may be involved in promotion, prevention, assessment, or rehabilitation related to hearing or vestibular disorders.
Special Authorization
Under section 42.4 of the Quebec Professional Code, the Order Board of Directors may, via special authorization, grant a person legally authorized to practice their profession outside Quebec permission, to use a title reserved for members of the Order or to perform professional acts in Quebec that are reserved for them.

The Règlement sur les normes d’équivalence aux fins de la délivrance d’un permis par l’Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec stipulates that applicants with graduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology from an institution located outside Quebec may receive diploma equivalence.
Applicants Who Graduated Outside Canada More Than 5 Years
The Règlement sur les normes d’équivalence aux fins de la délivrance d’un permis par l’Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec stipulates that applicants with graduate degrees in Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology from an institution located outside Quebec may receive diploma equivalence.
Training Equivalence
Under the Règlement sur les normes d’équivalence aux fins de la délivrance d’un permis par l’Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec, applicants who do not hold a graduate degree but do have related training and work experience in the field of speech-language pathology or audiology may apply for training equivalence.

In Quebec, the titles of “Speech-Language Pathologist” and “Audiologist” are reserved for members of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (“OOAQ”). Under the Professional Code, only members of OOAQ are allowed to use the reserved titles and engage in the professional activities related to them.
